Services Flake System
Epoxy Floor Coating in the Texas Hill Country
The floor we'd put in our own garage — and did.
When clients call us, it's usually about their garage, but if it's concrete, we can make it look good. We install a flake system finished with a fast-curing polyaspartic topcoat, turning a worn-out slab into a floor you're proud to pull into. And you work directly with us, Shane and Keena, start to finish: no call center, no salesman, just the two owners who'll be doing your floor.

What is an epoxy flake floor?
It's built in layers: we lay a colored base coat, hand-throw color flakes across the whole thing, and seal it all under a clear polyaspartic topcoat. Here's the part that matters most, and it's what we get asked about all the time: we do a full broadcast. That means we throw flakes until you can't see a speck of the base coat underneath. It's all flakes, wall to wall. Early on, a few folks asked us to do a partial broadcast, just scatter some flakes and let them land where they land. Every time, they'd call us back a couple weeks later: 'we can see the base coat showing through, we don't love it.' So now we just do it right the first time. One more thing worth knowing: because the flakes layer on top of each other instead of drying flat, the finished floor has natural grip to it. If you want more, we can add aluminum oxide at no charge. Fair warning though, it does make the floor harder to keep clean, so plenty of folks skip it and still like the traction they've got.
How a flake floor is built
A flake floor is built up in layers, and the prep underneath matters as much as the color on top. Here is what goes down, from the slab up.

Concrete. The grind is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether the floor lasts. We open up the slab and fix cracks and bad spots before anything goes down.
Base Coat. A pigmented coat goes down wet. This is what the flakes land in.
Flake Layer. Color flakes, hand-thrown edge to edge across the wet base coat.
Top Coat. A clear polyaspartic seal over the top. It locks the flakes down and takes the daily wear.
Epoxy or polyaspartic: what's the difference?
Most people say epoxy, because that's the word everybody knows, and we'll answer to it. The honest answer is that we use both. Epoxy and polyaspartic each have their place, so tell us what your project is and we'll recommend the system that fits it. Here's how the two compare.
Start with cure time. Polyaspartic sets up in about an hour per coat, which is how a flake floor can go in and be finished in a single day. Epoxy needs a lot longer between coats, and it's often days before you can park on it. Then there's sunlight. Polyaspartic resists fading and yellowing, while epoxy can yellow over time where the sun hits it.
Polyaspartic also stays a little flexible after it cures. Epoxy cures more rigid, which makes it more prone to chipping. Polyaspartic is low VOC with very little smell, and epoxy off-gasses more while it cures. On price, epoxy is generally the cheaper of the two, and for some projects that's the right call.

Epoxy floors for garages, shops, and busy concrete
Most folks find us for their garage (that's our bread and butter), but a flake floor earns its keep anywhere concrete takes a beating: workshops, business floors, back porches, even inside the house. It's the everyday workhorse of what we do. That tough polyaspartic topcoat means hot tires, dropped tools, and spilled oil don't stand a chance, and it wipes clean with a mop. If you've got a slab that gets used, this is the floor that holds up to it.
What does an epoxy garage floor cost?
An epoxy flake floor runs $5 to $7 per square foot, installed. Where you land in that range is pretty simple: how big the space is, what shape your concrete's in and how much prep it needs, and which color you pick. Most of our colors are standard. A few, our specialty and hybrid blends, cost a little more, and we'll always tell you that up front, never at the end. Getting ready for install day
Nothing complicated, but a few things make the day go smooth. Clear everything off the floor before we arrive, including whatever's stored along the walls. Keep sprinklers and pool cleaners off while we're working, and trim back any grass or bushes touching the concrete. Once we start, the area needs to stay closed to foot traffic, pets included, until we tell you it's ready.
How long does an epoxy floor take?
Most flake floors under about a thousand square feet go down in a single day. Bigger spaces run longer, and refurbishing a floor that already has a coating on it takes more time than starting from a clean slab, so we'll always give you the honest timeline before we start. Once we're finished, give it 24 hours before you walk on it and set things back down, and 72 hours before you park on it. Hot tires are the reason for that longer wait.
